Gratification (2nd) DutiyaassÄdasutta
āMendicants, if there were no gratification in the world, sentient beings wouldnāt be aroused by it. āNo cedaį¹, bhikkhave, loke assÄdo abhavissa, nayidaį¹ sattÄ loke sÄrajjeyyuį¹. But because there is gratification in the world, sentient beings are aroused by it. YasmÄ ca kho, bhikkhave, atthi loke assÄdo, tasmÄ sattÄ loke sÄrajjanti.
If the world had no drawback, sentient beings wouldnāt grow disillusioned with it. No cedaį¹, bhikkhave, loke ÄdÄ«navo abhavissa, nayidaį¹ sattÄ loke nibbindeyyuį¹. But since the world has a drawback, sentient beings do grow disillusioned with it. YasmÄ ca kho, bhikkhave, atthi loke ÄdÄ«navo, tasmÄ sattÄ loke nibbindanti.
If there were no escape from the world, sentient beings wouldnāt escape from it. No cedaį¹, bhikkhave, loke nissaraį¹aį¹ abhavissa, nayidaį¹ sattÄ lokamhÄ nissareyyuį¹. But since there is an escape from the world, sentient beings do escape from it. YasmÄ ca kho, bhikkhave, atthi loke nissaraį¹aį¹, tasmÄ sattÄ lokamhÄ nissaranti.
As long as sentient beings donāt truly understand the worldās gratification, drawback, and escape for what they are, they havenāt escaped from this worldāwith its gods, MÄras, and Divinities, this population with its ascetics and brahmins, its gods and humansāand they donāt live detached, liberated, with mind free of boundaries.
