Then the brahmin Jānussoṇi went up to the Buddha, bowed, sat down to one side, and said to the Buddha: Atha kho jāṇussoṇi brāhmaṇo yena bhagavā tenupasaį¹…kami; upasaį¹…kamitvā bhagavantaṁ abhivādetvā ekamantaṁ nisÄ«di. Ekamantaṁ nisinno kho jāṇussoṇi brāhmaṇo bhagavantaṁ etadavoca:

ā€œWorthy Gotama, they say that ā€˜extinguishment is apparent in the present life’. ā€œā€˜sandiį¹į¹hikaṁ nibbānaṁ sandiį¹į¹hikaṁ nibbānan’ti, bho gotama, vuccati. In what way is extinguishment apparent in the present life, immediately effective, inviting inspection, relevant, so that sensible people can know it for themselves?ā€ Kittāvatā nu kho, bho gotama, sandiį¹į¹hikaṁ nibbānaṁ hoti akālikaṁ ehipassikaṁ opaneyyikaṁ paccattaṁ veditabbaṁ viññūhÄ«ā€ti?

ā€œA greedy person, overcome by greed, intends to hurt themselves, hurt others, and hurt both. They experience mental pain and sadness.
