Quenched Nibbutasutta
Then the brahmin JÄnussoį¹i went up to the Buddha, bowed, sat down to one side, and said to the Buddha: Atha kho jÄį¹ussoį¹i brÄhmaį¹o yena bhagavÄ tenupasaį¹ kami; upasaį¹ kamitvÄ bhagavantaį¹ abhivÄdetvÄ ekamantaį¹ nisÄ«di. Ekamantaį¹ nisinno kho jÄį¹ussoį¹i brÄhmaį¹o bhagavantaį¹ etadavoca:
āWorthy Gotama, they say that āextinguishment is apparent in the present lifeā. āāsandiį¹į¹hikaį¹ nibbÄnaį¹ sandiį¹į¹hikaį¹ nibbÄnanāti, bho gotama, vuccati. In what way is extinguishment apparent in the present life, immediately effective, inviting inspection, relevant, so that sensible people can know it for themselves?ā KittÄvatÄ nu kho, bho gotama, sandiį¹į¹hikaį¹ nibbÄnaį¹ hoti akÄlikaį¹ ehipassikaį¹ opaneyyikaį¹ paccattaį¹ veditabbaį¹ viññūhÄ«āti?
āA greedy person, overcome by greed, intends to hurt themselves, hurt others, and hurt both. They experience mental pain and sadness. Ratto kho, brÄhmaį¹a, rÄgena abhibhÅ«to pariyÄdinnacitto attabyÄbÄdhÄyapi ceteti, parabyÄbÄdhÄyapi ceteti, ubhayabyÄbÄdhÄyapi ceteti, cetasikampi dukkhaį¹ domanassaį¹ paį¹isaį¹vedeti. When greed has been given up, they donāt intend to hurt themselves, hurt others, and hurt both. They donāt experience mental pain and sadness. RÄge pahÄ«ne nevattabyÄbÄdhÄyapi ceteti, na parabyÄbÄdhÄyapi ceteti, na ubhayabyÄbÄdhÄyapi ceteti, na cetasikampi dukkhaį¹ domanassaį¹ paį¹isaį¹vedeti. This is how extinguishment is apparent in the present life. Evampi kho, brÄhmaį¹a, sandiį¹į¹hikaį¹ nibbÄnaį¹ hoti.

A deluded person, overcome by delusion, intends to hurt themselves, hurt others, and hurt both. They experience mental pain and sadness. mūḷho kho, brÄhmaį¹a, mohena abhibhÅ«to pariyÄdinnacitto attabyÄbÄdhÄyapi ceteti, parabyÄbÄdhÄyapi ceteti, ubhayabyÄbÄdhÄyapi ceteti, cetasikampi dukkhaį¹ domanassaį¹ paį¹isaį¹vedeti. When delusion has been given up, they donāt intend to hurt themselves, hurt others, and hurt both. They donāt experience mental pain and sadness. Mohe pahÄ«ne nevattabyÄbÄdhÄyapi ceteti, na parabyÄbÄdhÄyapi ceteti, na ubhayabyÄbÄdhÄyapi ceteti, na cetasikaį¹ dukkhaį¹ domanassaį¹ paį¹isaį¹vedeti. This, too, is how extinguishment is apparent in the present life. Evampi kho, brÄhmaį¹a, sandiį¹į¹hikaį¹ nibbÄnaį¹ hoti.
When you experience the ending of greed, hate, and delusion without remainder, Yato kho ayaį¹, brÄhmaį¹a, anavasesaį¹ rÄgakkhayaį¹ paį¹isaį¹vedeti, anavasesaį¹ dosakkhayaį¹ paį¹isaį¹vedeti, anavasesaį¹ mohakkhayaį¹ paį¹isaį¹vedeti; thatās how extinguishment is apparent in the present life, immediately effective, inviting inspection, relevant, so that sensible people can know it for themselves.ā evaį¹ kho, brÄhmaį¹a, sandiį¹į¹hikaį¹ nibbÄnaį¹ hoti akÄlikaį¹ ehipassikaį¹ opaneyyikaį¹ paccattaį¹ veditabbaį¹ viññūhÄ«āti.
