Stains Malasutta

ā€œMendicants, there are these eight stains. ā€œAį¹­į¹­himāni, bhikkhave, malāni. What eight? Katamāni aį¹­į¹­ha? Not rehearsing is the stain of hymns. Asajjhāyamalā, bhikkhave, mantā; Neglect is the stain of houses. anuį¹­į¹­hānamalā, bhikkhave, gharā; Laziness is the stain of beauty. malaṁ, bhikkhave, vaṇṇassa kosajjaṁ; Negligence is a guard’s stain. pamādo, bhikkhave, rakkhato malaṁ; Misconduct is a woman’s stain. malaṁ, bhikkhave, itthiyā duccaritaṁ; Stinginess is a giver’s stain. maccheraṁ, bhikkhave, dadato malaṁ; Bad, unskillful qualities are a stain in this world and the next. malā, bhikkhave, pāpakā akusalā dhammā asmiṁ loke paramhi ca; Worse than any of these is ignorance, the worst stain of all. tato, bhikkhave, malā malataraṁ avijjā paramaṁ malaṁ. These are the eight stains. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, aį¹­į¹­ha malānÄ«ti.

Not rehearsing is the stain of hymns. Asajjhāyamalā mantā, The stain of houses is neglect. anuį¹­į¹­hānamalā gharā; Laziness is the stain of beauty. Malaṁ vaṇṇassa kosajjaṁ, A guard’s stain is negligence. pamādo rakkhato malaṁ.

Misconduct is a woman’s stain. Malitthiyā duccaritaṁ, A giver’s stain is stinginess. maccheraṁ dadato malaṁ; Bad qualities are a stain Malā ve pāpakā dhammā, in this world and the next. asmiṁ loke paramhi ca; But a worse stain than these Tato malā malataraṁ, is ignorance, the worst stain of all.ā€ avijjā paramaṁ malanā€ti.
