Thoughts Vitakkasutta
This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard. VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatÄ vuttamarahatÄti me sutaį¹:
āMendicants, there are these three unskillful thoughts. āTayome, bhikkhave, akusalavitakkÄ. What three? Katame tayo? The thought of status; of getting material things, honor, and popularity; and of fondness for others. AnavaƱƱattipaį¹isaį¹yutto vitakko, lÄbhasakkÄrasilokapaį¹isaį¹yutto vitakko, parÄnuddayatÄpaį¹isaį¹yutto vitakko. These are the three unskillful thoughts.ā Ime kho, bhikkhave, tayo akusalavitakkÄāti.
The Buddha spoke this matter. Etamatthaį¹ bhagavÄ avoca. On this it is said: Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati:
āOne concerned with being looked up to, āAnavaƱƱattisaį¹yutto, with possessions, honor, and respect, lÄbhasakkÄragÄravo; with sharing joys with friends, SahanandÄ« amaccehi, is far from the ending of fetters. ÄrÄ saį¹yojanakkhayÄ.
But one who gives up children and herds, Yo ca puttapasuį¹ hitvÄ, marriage and acquisitionsāVivÄhe saį¹harÄni ca; such a mendicant is capable Bhabbo so tÄdiso bhikkhu, of experiencing the highest awakening.ā Phuį¹į¹huį¹ sambodhimuttamanāti.
This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard. Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatÄ, iti me sutanti.
Paį¹hamaį¹.
