With Indaka Indakasutta
So I have heard. Evaį¹ me sutaį¹āAt one time the Buddha was staying near RÄjagaha on Mount Indraās Peak, the haunt of the native spirit Indaka. ekaį¹ samayaį¹ bhagavÄ rÄjagahe viharati indakÅ«į¹e pabbate, indakassa yakkhassa bhavane.
Then the native spirit Indaka went up to the Buddha, and addressed him in verse: Atha kho indako yakkho yena bhagavÄ tenupasaį¹ kami; upasaį¹ kamitvÄ bhagavantaį¹ gÄthÄya ajjhabhÄsi:
āThe Buddhas say that form is not the soul. āRÅ«paį¹ na jÄ«vanti vadanti buddhÄ, Then how does this one obtain this body? Kathaį¹ nvayaį¹ vindatimaį¹ sarÄ«raį¹; From where do his bones and organs come? Kutassa aį¹į¹hÄ«yakapiį¹įøameti, How does this one coalesce in the womb?ā Kathaį¹ nvayaį¹ sajjati gabbharasmināti.
āFirst thereās the zygote; āPaį¹hamaį¹ kalalaį¹ hoti, then thereās the blastocyst; kalalÄ hoti abbudaį¹; from there arises the gastrula; AbbudÄ jÄyate pesi, which produces the embryonic mass. pesi nibbattatÄ« ghano; From that the limb buds appear, GhanÄ pasÄkhÄ jÄyanti, the head hair, body hair, and nails. kesÄ lomÄ nakhÄpi ca.
And whatever the mother eatsāYaƱcassa bhuƱjatÄ« mÄtÄ, the food and drink that she consumesāannaį¹ pÄnaƱca bhojanaį¹; nourishes them there, Tena so tattha yÄpeti, the person in the motherās womb.ā mÄtukucchigato naroāti.
