The Ending of Defilements Āsavakkhayasutta

ā€œMendicants, there are these five faculties. ā€œPaƱcimāni, bhikkhave, indriyāni. What five? Katamāni paƱca? The faculties of faith, energy, mindfulness, immersion, and wisdom. Saddhindriyaṁ …pe… paƱƱindriyaṁ—These are the five faculties. imāni kho, bhikkhave, paƱcindriyāni.

It’s because of developing and cultivating these five faculties that a mendicant realizes the undefiled freedom of heart and freedom by wisdom in this very life. And they live having realized it with their own insight due to the ending of defilements.ā€ Imesaṁ kho, bhikkhave, paƱcannaṁ indriyānaṁ bhāvitattā bahulÄ«katattā bhikkhu āsavānaṁ khayā anāsavaṁ cetovimuttiṁ paƱƱāvimuttiṁ diį¹į¹heva dhamme sayaṁ abhiƱƱā sacchikatvā upasampajja viharatÄ«ā€ti.
