Fruits (2nd) Dutiyaphalasutta

ā€œMendicants, there are these four bases of psychic power. ā€œCattārome, bhikkhave, iddhipādā. What four? Katame cattāro? It’s when a mendicant develops the basis of psychic power that has immersion due to enthusiasm … Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu chandasamādhippadhānasaį¹…khārasamannāgataṁ iddhipādaṁ bhāveti, energy … vÄ«riyasamādhi …pe… mental development … cittasamādhi … inquiry, and active effort. vÄ«maṁsāsamādhippadhānasaį¹…khārasamannāgataṁ iddhipādaṁ bhāveti—These are the four bases of psychic power. ime kho, bhikkhave, cattāro iddhipādā. Because of developing and cultivating these four bases of psychic power, seven fruits and benefits can be expected. Imesaṁ kho, bhikkhave, catunnaṁ iddhipādānaṁ bhāvitattā bahulÄ«katattā satta phalā sattānisaṁsā pāṭikaį¹…khā.

What seven? Katame satta phalā sattānisaṁsā? They attain enlightenment early on in this very life. Diį¹­į¹­heva dhamme paį¹­ikacca aƱƱaṁ ārādheti If not, they attain enlightenment at the time of death. no ce diį¹­į¹­heva dhamme paį¹­ikacca aƱƱaṁ ārādheti; atha maraṇakāle aƱƱaṁ ārādheti, If not, with the ending of the five lower fetters, they’re extinguished between one life and the next … they’re extinguished upon landing … they’re extinguished without extra effort … they’re extinguished with extra effort … they head upstream, going to the Akaniį¹­į¹­ha realm. no ce diį¹­į¹­heva dhamme paį¹­ikacca aƱƱaṁ ārādheti, no ce maraṇakāle aƱƱaṁ ārādheti; atha paƱcannaṁ orambhāgiyānaṁ saṁyojanānaṁ parikkhayā antarāparinibbāyÄ« hoti, upahaccaparinibbāyÄ« hoti, asaį¹…khāraparinibbāyÄ« hoti, sasaį¹…khāraparinibbāyÄ« hoti, uddhaṁsoto hoti akaniį¹­į¹­hagāmÄ«. Because of developing and cultivating these four bases of psychic power, these seven fruits and benefits can be expected.ā€ Imesaṁ kho, bhikkhave, catunnaṁ iddhipādānaṁ bhāvitattā bahulÄ«katattā ime satta phalā sattānisaṁsā pāṭikaį¹…khÄā€ti.
