With Verses Sagāthakasutta

ā€œMendicants, a noble disciple who has four things is a stream-enterer, not liable to be reborn in the underworld, assured, destined for awakening. ā€œCatÅ«hi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato ariyasāvako sotāpanno hoti avinipātadhammo niyato sambodhiparāyaṇo.

What four? Katamehi catÅ«hi? It’s when a noble disciple has experiential confidence in the Buddha … Idha, bhikkhave, ariyasāvako buddhe aveccappasādena samannāgato hoti—itipi so bhagavā …pe… satthā devamanussānaṁ buddho bhagavāti. the teaching … Dhamme …pe… the Saį¹…gha … saį¹…ghe …pe… And they have the ethical conduct loved by the noble ones … leading to immersion. ariyakantehi sÄ«lehi samannāgato hoti akhaį¹‡įøehi …pe… samādhisaṁvattanikehi. A noble disciple who has these four things is a stream-enterer, not liable to be reborn in the underworld, assured, destined for awakening.ā€ Imehi kho, bhikkhave, catÅ«hi dhammehi samannāgato ariyasāvako sotāpanno hoti avinipātadhammo niyato sambodhiparāyaṇoā€ti.

That is what the Buddha said. Idamavoca bhagavā. Then the Holy One, the Teacher, went on to say: Idaṁ vatvāna sugato athāparaṁ etadavoca satthā:

ā€œWhoever has faith in the Realized One, ā€œYassa saddhā tathāgate, unwavering and well grounded; acalā suppatiį¹į¹hitā; whose ethical conduct is good, SÄ«laƱca yassa kalyāṇaṁ, praised and loved by the noble ones; ariyakantaṁ pasaṁsitaṁ.

So let the wise devote themselves Tasmā saddhaƱca sÄ«laƱca, to faith, ethical behaviour, pasādaṁ dhammadassanaṁ; confidence, and insight into the teaching, AnuyuƱjetha medhāvÄ«, remembering the instructions of the Buddhas.ā€ saraṁ buddhānasāsananā€ti.
