Dying as Ghosts and Reborn as Ghosts Pettidevapettivisayasutta
ā⦠the sentient beings who die as ghosts and are reborn as gods are few, while those who die as ghosts and are reborn in the ghost realm are many. ⦠āEvameva kho, bhikkhave, appakÄ te sattÄ ye pettivisayÄ cutÄ devesu paccÄjÄyanti; atha kho eteva bahutarÄ sattÄ ye pettivisayÄ cutÄ pettivisaye paccÄjÄyanti. Why is that? Taį¹ kissa hetu? Itās because they havenāt seen the four noble truths. Adiį¹į¹hattÄ, bhikkhave, catunnaį¹ ariyasaccÄnaį¹. What four? Katamesaį¹ catunnaį¹? The noble truths of suffering, the origin of suffering, the cessation of suffering, and the practice that leads to the cessation of suffering. Dukkhassa ariyasaccassa, dukkhasamudayassa ariyasaccassa, dukkhanirodhassa ariyasaccassa, dukkhanirodhagÄminiyÄ paį¹ipadÄya ariyasaccassa.
Thatās why you should practice meditation to understand: āThis is sufferingā ⦠āThis is the origin of sufferingā ⦠āThis is the cessation of sufferingā ⦠āThis is the practice that leads to the cessation of sufferingā.ā TasmÄtiha, bhikkhave, āidaį¹ dukkhanāti yogo karaį¹Ä«yo, āayaį¹ dukkhasamudayoāti yogo karaį¹Ä«yo, āayaį¹ dukkhanirodhoāti yogo karaį¹Ä«yo, āayaį¹ dukkhanirodhagÄminÄ« paį¹ipadÄāti yogo karaį¹Ä«yoāti.
That is what the Buddha said. Idamavoca bhagavÄ. Satisfied, the mendicants approved what the Buddha said. AttamanÄ te bhikkhÅ« bhagavato bhÄsitaį¹ abhinandunti.
