The Perfected Ones Arahantasutta

At Sāvatthī. Sāvatthinidānaṁ.

ā€œMendicants, whatever perfected ones, fully awakened Buddhas truly awaken—in the past, ā€œYe hi keci, bhikkhave, atÄ«tamaddhānaṁ arahanto sammāsambuddhā yathābhÅ«taṁ abhisambujjhiṁsu, sabbe te cattāri ariyasaccāni yathābhÅ«taṁ abhisambujjhiṁsu. future, Ye hi keci, bhikkhave, anāgatamaddhānaṁ arahanto sammāsambuddhā yathābhÅ«taṁ abhisambujjhissanti, sabbe te cattāri ariyasaccāni yathābhÅ«taṁ abhisambujjhissanti. or present—all of them truly awaken to the four noble truths. Ye hi keci, bhikkhave, etarahi arahanto sammāsambuddhā yathābhÅ«taṁ abhisambujjhanti, sabbe te cattāri ariyasaccāni yathābhÅ«taṁ abhisambujjhanti.

What four? Katamāni cattāri? The noble truths of suffering, the origin of suffering, the cessation of suffering, and the practice that leads to the cessation of suffering. Dukkhaṁ ariyasaccaṁ, dukkhasamudayaṁ ariyasaccaṁ, dukkhanirodhaṁ ariyasaccaṁ, dukkhanirodhagāminÄ« paį¹ipadā ariyasaccaṁ. Whatever perfected ones, fully awakened Buddhas truly awaken—in the past, Ye hi, keci, bhikkhave, atÄ«tamaddhānaṁ arahanto sammāsambuddhā yathābhÅ«taṁ abhisambujjhiṁsu …pe… future, abhisambujjhissanti … or present—all of them truly awaken to the four noble truths. abhisambujjhanti, sabbe te imāni cattāri ariyasaccāni yathābhÅ«taṁ abhisambujjhanti.

That’s why you should practice meditation ā€¦ā€ Tasmātiha, bhikkhave, ā€˜idaṁ dukkhan’ti yogo karaṇīyo …pe… ā€˜ayaṁ dukkhanirodhagāminÄ« paį¹ipadā’ti yogo karaṇīyoā€ti.

Catutthaṁ.
