Fields Khettasutta
āMendicants, a farmer has three primary duties. āTÄ«į¹imÄni, bhikkhave, kassakassa gahapatissa pubbe karaį¹Ä«yÄni. What three? KatamÄni tÄ«į¹i? A farmer first of all makes sure the field is well ploughed and tilled. Idha, bhikkhave, kassako gahapati paį¹ikacceva khettaį¹ sukaį¹į¹haį¹ karoti sumatikataį¹. Next they plant seeds in season. Paį¹ikacceva khettaį¹ sukaį¹į¹haį¹ karitvÄ sumatikataį¹ kÄlena bÄ«jÄni patiį¹į¹hÄpeti. When the time is right, they irrigate the field and then drain it. Undertaking the training in the higher ethics, the higher mind, and the higher wisdom. AdhisÄ«lasikkhÄsamÄdÄnaį¹, adhicittasikkhÄsamÄdÄnaį¹, adhipaƱƱÄsikkhÄsamÄdÄnaį¹āThese are the three primary duties of a mendicant. imÄni kho, bhikkhave, tÄ«į¹i bhikkhussa pubbe karaį¹Ä«yÄni.
So you should train like this: TasmÄtiha, bhikkhave, evaį¹ sikkhitabbaį¹: āWe will have keen enthusiasm for undertaking the training in the higher ethics, the higher mind, and the higher wisdom.ā ātibbo no chando bhavissati adhisÄ«lasikkhÄsamÄdÄne, tibbo no chando bhavissati adhicittasikkhÄsamÄdÄne, tibbo no chando bhavissati adhipaƱƱÄsikkhÄsamÄdÄneāti. Thatās how you should train.ā EvaƱhi vo, bhikkhave, sikkhitabbanāti.
