A Meal Assigner Bhattuddesakasutta

ā€œMendicants, a meal assigner who has four qualities is placed in hell as if delivered there. ā€œCatÅ«hi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato bhattuddesako yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ niraye. What four? Katamehi catÅ«hi? They make decisions prejudiced by favoritism, hostility, stupidity, and cowardice. Chandāgatiṁ gacchati, dosāgatiṁ gacchati, mohāgatiṁ gacchati, bhayāgatiṁ gacchati—A meal assigner who has these four qualities is placed in hell as if delivered there. imehi kho, bhikkhave, catÅ«hi dhammehi samannāgato bhattuddesako yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ niraye.

A meal designator who has four qualities is placed in heaven as if delivered there. CatÅ«hi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato bhattuddesako yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ sagge. What four? Katamehi catÅ«hi? They make decisions unprejudiced by favoritism, hostility, stupidity, and cowardice. Na chandāgatiṁ gacchati, na dosāgatiṁ gacchati, na mohāgatiṁ gacchati, na bhayāgatiṁ gacchati—A meal assigner who has these four qualities is placed in heaven as if delivered there. imehi kho, bhikkhave, catÅ«hi dhammehi samannāgato bhattuddesako yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ saggeti.

All those people with unbridled sensuality, Ye keci kāmesu asaƱƱatā janā, unprincipled, with no respect for principle, Adhammikā honti adhammagāravā; led astray
by favoritism, hostility, stupidity, or cowardice,
Chandā dosā mohā ca bhayā gāmino,
are called ā€˜an assembly of the dregs’: Parisākasaį¹o ca panesa vuccati.

that’s what was said by the ascetic who knows. EvaƱhi vuttaṁ samaṇena jānatā, And so those praiseworthy true persons, Tasmā hi te sappurisā pasaṁsiyā; standing on principle, doing nothing wrong, Dhamme į¹hitā ye na karonti pāpakaṁ, not led astray
by favoritism, hostility, stupidity, or cowardice,
Na chandā na dosā na mohā na bhayā ca gāmino;
are called ā€˜an assembly of the cream’: Parisāya maį¹‡įøo ca panesa vuccati, that’s what was said by the ascetic who knows.ā€ EvaƱhi vuttaṁ samaṇena jānatāā€ti.
