Verbal Conduct Duccaritasutta

ā€œMendicants, there are these four kinds of bad conduct by way of speech. ā€œCattārimāni, bhikkhave, vacÄ«duccaritāni. What four? Katamāni cattāri? Speech that’s false, divisive, harsh, or nonsensical. Musāvādo, pisuṇā vācā, pharusā vācā, samphappalāpo—These are the four kinds of bad conduct by way of speech. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, cattāri vacÄ«duccaritāni.

There are these four kinds of good conduct by way of speech. Cattārimāni, bhikkhave, vacÄ«sucaritāni. What four? Katamāni cattāri? Speech that’s true, harmonious, gentle, and thoughtful. Saccavācā, apisuṇā vācā, saṇhā vācā, mantavācā—These are the four kinds of good conduct by way of speech.ā€ Imāni kho, bhikkhave, cattāri vacÄ«sucaritānÄ«ā€ti.
