All Four Quarters CÄtuddisasutta
āMendicants, a mendicant with five qualities is at ease in any quarter. āPaƱcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannÄgato bhikkhu cÄtuddiso hoti. What five? Katamehi paƱcahi?
Itās when mendicant is ethical, restrained in the monastic code, conducting themselves well and resorting for alms in suitable places. Seeing danger in the slightest fault, they keep the rules theyāve undertaken. Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu sÄ«lavÄ hoti, pÄtimokkhasaį¹varasaį¹vuto viharati ÄcÄragocarasampanno aį¹umattesu vajjesu bhayadassÄvÄ«, samÄdÄya sikkhati sikkhÄpadesu;
Theyāre very learned, remembering and keeping what theyāve learned. These teachings are good in the beginning, good in the middle, and good in the end, meaningful and well-phrased, describing a spiritual practice thatās entirely full and pure. They are very learned in such teachings, remembering them, rehearsing them, mentally scrutinizing them, and penetrating them theoretically. bahussuto hoti sutadharo sutasannicayo, ye te dhammÄ ÄdikalyÄį¹Ä majjhekalyÄį¹Ä pariyosÄnakalyÄį¹Ä sÄtthaį¹ sabyaƱjanaį¹ kevalaparipuį¹į¹aį¹ parisuddhaį¹ brahmacariyaį¹ abhivadanti, tathÄrÅ«pÄssa dhammÄ bahussutÄ honti dhÄtÄ vacasÄ paricitÄ manasÄnupekkhitÄ diį¹į¹hiyÄ suppaį¹ividdhÄ;
Theyāre content with any kind of robes, almsfood, lodgings, and medicines and supplies for the sick. santuį¹į¹ho hoti itarÄ«taracÄ«varapiį¹įøapÄtasenÄsanagilÄnappaccayabhesajjaparikkhÄrena;
They get the four absorptionsāblissful meditations in this life that belong to the higher mindāwhen they want, without trouble or difficulty. catunnaį¹ jhÄnÄnaį¹ ÄbhicetasikÄnaį¹ diį¹į¹hadhammasukhavihÄrÄnaį¹ nikÄmalÄbhÄ« hoti akicchalÄbhÄ« akasiralÄbhÄ«;
They realize the undefiled freedom of heart and freedom by wisdom in this very life. And they live having realized it with their own insight due to the ending of defilements. ÄsavÄnaį¹ khayÄ anÄsavaį¹ cetovimuttiį¹ paƱƱÄvimuttiį¹ diį¹į¹heva dhamme sayaį¹ abhiĆ±Ć±Ä sacchikatvÄ upasampajja viharati.
A mendicant with these five qualities is at ease in any quarter.ā Imehi, kho, bhikkhave, paƱcahi dhammehi samannÄgato bhikkhu cÄtuddiso hotÄ«āti.
