7. The Perfected Ones Arahantavagga

JīvakapaƱhavatthu

At journey’s end, rid of sorrow; Gataddhino visokassa, everywhere free, vippamuttassa sabbadhi; all ties given up, SabbaganthappahÄ«nassa, no fever is found in them. pariḷāho na vijjati.

Mahākassapattheravatthu

The mindful apply themselves; Uyyuñjanti satīmanto, they delight in no abode. na nikete ramanti te; Like a swan gone from the marsh, Haṁsāva pallalaṁ hitvā, they leave home after home behind. okamokaṁ jahanti te.

Belaṭṭhasīsattheravatthu

Those with nothing stored up, Yesaṁ sannicayo natthi, who have understood their food, ye pariƱƱātabhojanā; whose domain is the liberation SuƱƱato animitto ca, of the signless and the empty: vimokkho yesaṁ gocaro; their path is hard to trace, Ākāseva sakuntānaṁ, like birds in the sky. gati tesaṁ durannayā.

Anuruddhattheravatthu

One whose defilements have ended; Yassāsavā parikkhīṇā, who’s not attached to food; āhāre ca anissito; whose domain is the liberation SuƱƱato animitto ca, of the signless and the empty: vimokkho yassa gocaro; their track is hard to trace, Ākāseva sakuntānaṁ, like birds in the sky. padaṁ tassa durannayaṁ.

Mahākaccāyanattheravatthu

Whose faculties have become serene, Yassindriyāni samathaį¹…gatāni, like horses tamed by a charioteer, Assā yathā sārathinā sudantā; who has abandoned conceit and defilements; PahÄ«namānassa anāsavassa, the unaffected one is envied by even the gods. Devāpi tassa pihayanti tādino.

Sāriputtattheravatthu

Undisturbed like the earth, Pathavisamo no virujjhati, true to their vows, steady as Indra’s pillar, Indakhilupamo tādi subbato; like a lake clear of mud; Rahadova apetakaddamo, such a one does not transmigrate. Saṁsārā na bhavanti tādino.

Kosambivāsitissattherasāmaṇeravatthu

Their mind is peaceful, Santaṁ tassa manaṁ hoti, peaceful are their speech and deeds. santā vācā ca kamma ca; Such a one is at peace, Sammadaññāvimuttassa, rightly freed through enlightenment. upasantassa tādino.

Sāriputtattheravatthu

Lacking faith, a house-breaker, Assaddho akataññū ca, one who acknowledges nothing, sandhicchedo ca yo naro; purged of hope, they’ve wasted their chance: Hatāvakāso vantāso, that is indeed the supreme person! sa ve uttamaporiso.

Khadiravaniyarevatattheravatthu

Whether in village or wilderness, Gāme vā yadi vāraƱƱe, in a valley or the uplands, Ninne vā yadi vā thale; wherever the perfected ones live Yattha arahanto viharanti, is a delightful place. Taṁ bhÅ«mirāmaṇeyyakaṁ.

AƱƱataraitthivatthu

Delightful are the wildernesses Ramaṇīyāni araƱƱāni, where no people delight. yattha na ramatÄ« jano; Those free of greed will delight there, VÄ«tarāgā ramissanti, not those who seek sensual pleasures. na te kāmagavesino.
