Elements of Escape Nissaraṇiyasutta

This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard. Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:

ā€œMendicants, there are these three elements of escape. ā€œTisso imā, bhikkhave, nissaraṇiyā dhātuyo. What three? Katamā tisso? Renunciation is the escape from sensual pleasures. Formlessness is the escape from form. Cessation is the escape from whatever is created, conditioned, and dependently originated. Kāmānametaṁ nissaraṇaṁ yadidaṁ nekkhammaṁ, rÅ«pānametaṁ nissaraṇaṁ yadidaṁ āruppaṁ, yaṁ kho pana kiƱci bhÅ«taṁ saį¹…khataṁ paį¹iccasamuppannaṁ nirodho tassa nissaraṇaṁ—These are the three elements of escape.ā€ imā kho, bhikkhave, tisso nissaraṇiyā dhātuyoā€ti.

The Buddha spoke this matter. Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca. On this it is said: Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:

ā€œKnowing the escape from sensuality, ā€œKāmanissaraṇaṁ Ʊatvā, and form’s transcendence, rÅ«pānaƱca atikkamaṁ; one always keen touches Sabbasaį¹…khārasamathaṁ, the stilling of all activities. phusaṁ ātāpi sabbadā.

That mendicant sees rightly, Sa ve sammaddaso bhikkhu, and when freed in regards to that, yato tattha vimuccati; that peaceful sage, with perfect insight, AbhiƱƱāvosito santo, has truly slipped their yoke.ā€ sa ve yogātigo munÄ«ā€ti.

This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard. Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.
