Elements of Escape Nissaraį¹iyasutta
This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard. VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatÄ vuttamarahatÄti me sutaį¹:
āMendicants, there are these three elements of escape. āTisso imÄ, bhikkhave, nissaraį¹iyÄ dhÄtuyo. What three? KatamÄ tisso? Renunciation is the escape from sensual pleasures. Formlessness is the escape from form. Cessation is the escape from whatever is created, conditioned, and dependently originated. KÄmÄnametaį¹ nissaraį¹aį¹ yadidaį¹ nekkhammaį¹, rÅ«pÄnametaį¹ nissaraį¹aį¹ yadidaį¹ Äruppaį¹, yaį¹ kho pana kiƱci bhÅ«taį¹ saį¹ khataį¹ paį¹iccasamuppannaį¹ nirodho tassa nissaraį¹aį¹āThese are the three elements of escape.ā imÄ kho, bhikkhave, tisso nissaraį¹iyÄ dhÄtuyoāti.
The Buddha spoke this matter. Etamatthaį¹ bhagavÄ avoca. On this it is said: Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati:
āKnowing the escape from sensuality, āKÄmanissaraį¹aṠñatvÄ, and formās transcendence, rÅ«pÄnaƱca atikkamaį¹; one always keen touches Sabbasaį¹ khÄrasamathaį¹, the stilling of all activities. phusaį¹ ÄtÄpi sabbadÄ.
That mendicant sees rightly, Sa ve sammaddaso bhikkhu, and when freed in regards to that, yato tattha vimuccati; that peaceful sage, with perfect insight, AbhiƱƱÄvosito santo, has truly slipped their yoke.ā sa ve yogÄtigo munÄ«āti.
This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard. Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatÄ, iti me sutanti.
