The training rule on the instruction 58. OvÄdasikkhÄpada
Origin story
At one time when the Buddha was staying in the Sakyan country in the Banyan Tree Monastery at Kapilavatthu, Tena samayena buddho bhagavÄ sakkesu viharati kapilavatthusmiį¹ nigrodhÄrÄme. the monks from the group of six went to the nunsā dwelling place to instruct the nuns from the group of six. Tena kho pana samayena chabbaggiyÄ bhikkhÅ« bhikkhunupassayaį¹ upasaį¹ kamitvÄ chabbaggiyÄ bhikkhuniyo ovadanti. Soon afterwards other nuns said to those nuns, Bhikkhuniyo chabbaggiyÄ bhikkhuniyo etadavocuį¹āāCome, Venerables, letās go to the instruction.ā āethÄyye, ovÄdaį¹ gamissÄmÄāti.
āThereās no need. The monks from the group of six came and instructed us right here.ā āYampi mayaį¹, ayye, gaccheyyÄma ovÄdassa kÄraį¹Ä, ayyÄ chabbaggiyÄ idheva ÄgantvÄ amhe ovadantÄ«āti.
The nuns of few desires complained and criticized them, YÄ tÄ bhikkhuniyo appicchÄ ā¦pe⦠tÄ ujjhÄyanti khiyyanti vipÄcentiāāHow could the nuns from the group of six not go to the instruction?ā ⦠ākathaƱhi nÄma chabbaggiyÄ bhikkhuniyo ovÄdaį¹ na gacchissantÄ«āti ā¦pe⦠āIs it true, monks, that those nuns didnāt do this?ā āsaccaį¹ kira, bhikkhave, chabbaggiyÄ bhikkhuniyo ovÄdaį¹ na gacchantÄ«āti?
āItās true, Sir.ā āSaccaį¹, bhagavÄāti.
The Buddha rebuked them ⦠Vigarahi buddho bhagavÄ ā¦pe⦠āHow could the nuns from the group of six not do this? kathaƱhi nÄma, bhikkhave, chabbaggiyÄ bhikkhuniyo ovÄdaį¹ na gacchissanti. This will affect peopleās confidence ā¦ā ⦠Netaį¹, bhikkhave, appasannÄnaį¹ vÄ pasÄdÄya ā¦pe⦠āAnd, monks, the nuns should recite this training rule like this: evaƱca pana, bhikkhave, bhikkhuniyo imaį¹ sikkhÄpadaį¹ uddisantuā
Final ruling
āIf a nun does not go to the instruction or to a formal meeting of the community, she commits an offense entailing confession.āā āYÄ pana bhikkhunÄ« ovÄdÄya vÄ saį¹vÄsÄya vÄ na gaccheyya, pÄcittiyanāti.

Non-offenses
There is no offense: AnÄpattiāif there is an obstacle; sati antarÄye, if she searches for a companion nun, but does not find one; pariyesitvÄ dutiyikaį¹ bhikkhuniį¹ na labhati, if she is sick; gilÄnÄya, if there is an emergency; ÄpadÄsu, if she is insane; ummattikÄya, if she is the first offender. ÄdikammikÄyÄti.
The eighth training rule is finished. Aį¹į¹hamasikkhÄpadaį¹ niį¹į¹hitaį¹.
