The Aggregates Khandhasutta

At Sāvatthī. Sāvatthiyaṁ viharati.

ā€œWhat do you think, Rāhula? ā€œTaṁ kiṁ maƱƱasi, rāhula, Is form permanent or impermanent?ā€ rÅ«paṁ niccaṁ vā aniccaṁ vÄā€ti?

ā€œImpermanent, sir.ā€ … ā€œAniccaṁ, bhanteā€ …

ā€œā€¦ feeling … ā€œvedanā …pe… perception … saƱƱā … choices … saį¹…khārā … Is consciousness permanent or impermanent?ā€ viññāṇaṁ niccaṁ vā aniccaṁ vÄā€ti?

ā€œImpermanent, sir.ā€ … ā€œAniccaṁ, bhanteā€ …

ā€œSeeing this, a learned noble disciple grows disillusioned with form, feeling, perception, choices, and consciousness. ā€œevaṁ passaṁ, rāhula, sutavā ariyasāvako rÅ«pasmimpi nibbindati …pe… vedanāyapi nibbindati … saƱƱāyapi nibbindati … saį¹…khāresupi nibbindati … viññāṇasmimpi nibbindati; Being disillusioned, desire fades away. When desire fades away they’re freed. When they’re freed, they know they’re freed. nibbindaṁ virajjati; virāgā vimuccati; vimuttasmiṁ vimuttamiti ñāṇaṁ hoti.

They understand: ā€˜Rebirth is ended, the spiritual journey has been completed, what had to be done has been done, there is nothing further for this place.ā€™ā€ ā€˜Khīṇā jāti, vusitaṁ brahmacariyaṁ, kataṁ karaṇīyaṁ, nāparaṁ itthattāyā’ti pajānātÄ«ā€ti.

Dasamaṁ.

Paį¹­hamo vaggo.

Tassuddānaṁ

Cakkhu rÅ«paƱca viññāṇaṁ, samphasso vedanāya ca; SaƱƱā saƱcetanā taṇhā, dhātu khandhena te dasāti.
