With Kappa (2nd) Dutiyakappasutta

At Sāvatthī. Sāvatthinidānaṁ.

Seated to one side, Venerable Kappa said to the Buddha: Ekamantaṁ nisinno kho āyasmā kappo bhagavantaṁ etadavoca:

ā€œSir, how does one know and see so that the heart is rid of I-making, mine-making, and conceit for this conscious body and externally for all signs; and going beyond discrimination, it’s peaceful and well freed?ā€ ā€œkathaṁ nu kho, bhante, jānato kathaṁ passato imasmiƱca saviññāṇake kāye bahiddhā ca sabbanimittesu ahaį¹…kāramamaį¹…kāramānāpagataṁ mānasaṁ hoti vidhā samatikkantaṁ santaṁ suvimuttanā€ti?

ā€œKappa, one is freed by not grasping having truly seen any kind of form at all—past, future, or present; internal or external; solid or subtle; inferior or superior; far or near: all form—with right understanding: ā€˜This is not mine, I am not this, this is not my self.’ ā€œYaṁ kiƱci, kappa, rÅ«paṁ atÄ«tānāgatapaccuppannaṁ …pe… sabbaṁ rÅ«paṁ ā€˜netaṁ mama, nesohamasmi, na meso attā’ti evametaṁ yathābhÅ«taṁ sammappaƱƱāya disvā anupādāvimutto hoti.

One is freed by not grasping having truly seen any kind of feeling … Yā kāci vedanā … perception … yā kāci saƱƱā … choices … ye keci saį¹…khārā … consciousness at all—past, future, or present; internal or external; solid or subtle; inferior or superior; far or near: all consciousness—with right understanding: ā€˜This is not mine, I am not this, this is not my self.’ yaṁ kiƱci viññāṇaṁ atÄ«tānāgatapaccuppannaṁ ajjhattaṁ vā bahiddhā vā oḷārikaṁ vā sukhumaṁ vā hÄ«naṁ vā paṇītaṁ vā yaṁ dÅ«re santike vā, sabbaṁ viññāṇaṁ ā€˜netaṁ mama, nesohamasmi, na meso attā’ti evametaṁ yathābhÅ«taṁ sammappaƱƱāya disvā anupādāvimutto hoti.

That’s how to know and see so that the heart is rid of I-making, mine-making, and conceit for this conscious body and externally for all signs; and going beyond discrimination, it’s peaceful and well freed.ā€ Evaṁ kho, kappa, jānato evaṁ passato imasmiƱca saviññāṇake kāye bahiddhā ca sabbanimittesu ahaį¹…kāramamaį¹…kāramānāpagataṁ mānasaṁ hoti vidhā samatikkantaṁ santaṁ suvimuttanā€ti.
