A Mendicant Bhikkhusutta

ā€œMendicants, all the mendicants in the past … ā€œYe hi keci, bhikkhave, atÄ«tamaddhānaṁ bhikkhÅ« āsavānaṁ khayā anāsavaṁ cetovimuttiṁ paƱƱāvimuttiṁ diį¹­į¹­heva dhamme sayaṁ abhiƱƱā sacchikatvā upasampajja vihariṁsu, sabbe te catunnaṁ iddhipādānaṁ bhāvitattā bahulÄ«katattā. future … Ye hi keci, bhikkhave, anāgatamaddhānaṁ bhikkhÅ« āsavānaṁ khayā anāsavaṁ cetovimuttiṁ paƱƱāvimuttiṁ diį¹­į¹­heva dhamme sayaṁ abhiƱƱā sacchikatvā upasampajja viharissanti, sabbe te catunnaṁ iddhipādānaṁ bhāvitattā bahulÄ«katattā. present who realize the undefiled freedom of heart and freedom by wisdom in this very life, and who live having realized it with their own insight due to the ending of defilements, do so by developing and cultivating the four bases of psychic power. Ye hi keci, bhikkhave, etarahi bhikkhÅ« āsavānaṁ khayā anāsavaṁ cetovimuttiṁ paƱƱāvimuttiṁ diį¹­į¹­heva dhamme sayaṁ abhiƱƱā sacchikatvā upasampajja viharanti, sabbe te catunnaṁ iddhipādānaṁ bhāvitattā bahulÄ«katattā.

What four? Katamesaṁ catunnaṁ? It’s when a mendicant develops the basis of psychic power that has immersion due to enthusiasm … Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu chandasamādhippadhānasaį¹…khārasamannāgataṁ iddhipādaṁ bhāveti, energy … vÄ«riyasamādhi …pe… mental development … cittasamādhi …pe… inquiry, and active effort. vÄ«maṁsāsamādhippadhānasaį¹…khārasamannāgataṁ iddhipādaṁ bhāveti.
