Sumana (2nd) Sumanattheragāthā

I was only seven years old “Yadā navo pabbajito, and had just gone forth jātiyā sattavassiko; when I overcame the mighty adder king Iddhiyā abhibhotvāna, with my psychic powers. pannagindaṁ mahiddhikaṁ.

I brought water for my mentor Upajjhāyassa udakaṁ, from the great lake Anotatta. anotattā mahāsarā; When he saw me, Āharāmi tato disvā, my teacher declared: maṁ satthā etadabravi”.

“Sāriputta, see this “Sāriputta imaṁ passa, young boy coming, āgacchantaṁ kumārakaṁ; carrying a water pot, Udakakumbhamādāya, serene inside himself. ajjhattaṁ susamāhitaṁ.

His conduct inspires confidence, Pāsādikena vattena, he is of lovely deportment: kalyāṇairiyāpatho; he is Anuruddha’s novice, Sāmaṇeronuruddhassa, assured in psychic powers. iddhiyā ca visārado.

Made a thoroughbred by a thoroughbred, Ājānīyena ājañño, made good by the good, sādhunā sādhukārito; educated and trained by Anuruddha, Vinīto anuruddhena, who has completed his task. katakiccena sikkhito.

Having attained ultimate peace So patvā paramaṁ santiṁ, and witnessed the unshakable, sacchikatvā akuppataṁ; that novice Sumana has the wish: Sāmaṇero sa sumano, ‘May no-one find me out!’” mā maṁ jaññāti icchatī”ti.
