ā€œThere are, mendicants, these two kinds of happiness. ā€œDvemāni, bhikkhave, sukhāni. What two? Katamāni dve? The happiness of laypeople, and the happiness of renunciates. GihisukhaƱca pabbajitasukhaƱca. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is the happiness of renunciates.ā€ Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ pabbajitasukhanā€ti.

ā€œThere are, mendicants, these two kinds of happiness. ā€œDvemāni, bhikkhave, sukhāni. What two? Katamāni dve? Sensual happiness and the happiness of renunciation. KāmasukhaƱca nekkhammasukhaƱca. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is the happiness of renunciation.ā€ Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ nekkhammasukhanā€ti.

ā€œThere are, mendicants, these two kinds of happiness. ā€œDvemāni, bhikkhave, sukhāni. What two? Katamāni dve? The happiness of attachments, and the happiness of no attachments. UpadhisukhaƱca nirupadhisukhaƱca. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is the happiness of no attachments.ā€ Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ nirupadhisukhanā€ti.

ā€œThere are, mendicants, these two kinds of happiness. ā€œDvemāni, bhikkhave, sukhāni. What two? Katamāni dve? Defiled happiness and undefiled happiness. SāsavasukhaƱca anāsavasukhaƱca. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is the happiness of no defilements.ā€ Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ anāsavasukhanā€ti.

ā€œThere are, mendicants, these two kinds of happiness. ā€œDvemāni, bhikkhave, sukhāni. What two? Katamāni dve? Happiness of the flesh and happiness not of the flesh. SāmisaƱca sukhaṁ nirāmisaƱca sukhaṁ. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is happiness not of the flesh.ā€ Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ nirāmisaṁ sukhanā€ti.

ā€œThere are, mendicants, these two kinds of happiness. ā€œDvemāni, bhikkhave, sukhāni. What two? Katamāni dve? Noble happiness and ignoble happiness. AriyasukhaƱca anariyasukhaƱca. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is noble happiness.ā€ Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ ariyasukhanā€ti.

ā€œThere are, mendicants, these two kinds of happiness. ā€œDvemāni, bhikkhave, sukhāni. What two? Katamāni dve? Physical happiness and mental happiness. KāyikaƱca sukhaṁ cetasikaƱca sukhaṁ. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is mental happiness.ā€ Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ cetasikaṁ sukhanā€ti.

ā€œThere are, mendicants, these two kinds of happiness. ā€œDvemāni, bhikkhave, sukhāni. What two? Katamāni dve? Happiness with rapture and happiness free of rapture. SappÄ«tikaƱca sukhaṁ nippÄ«tikaƱca sukhaṁ. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is happiness free of rapture.ā€ Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ nippÄ«tikaṁ sukhanā€ti.

ā€œThere are, mendicants, these two kinds of happiness. ā€œDvemāni, bhikkhave, sukhāni. What two? Katamāni dve? Happiness with pleasure and happiness with equanimity. SātasukhaƱca upekkhāsukhaƱca. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is happiness with equanimity.ā€ Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ upekkhāsukhanā€ti.

ā€œThere are, mendicants, these two kinds of happiness. ā€œDvemāni, bhikkhave, sukhāni. What two? Katamāni dve? The happiness of immersion and the happiness without immersion. SamādhisukhaƱca asamādhisukhaƱca. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is the happiness of immersion.ā€ Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ samādhisukhanā€ti.

ā€œThere are, mendicants, these two kinds of happiness. ā€œDvemāni, bhikkhave, sukhāni. What two? Katamāni dve? Happiness that relies on rapture and happiness that relies on freedom from rapture. SappÄ«tikārammaṇaƱca sukhaṁ nippÄ«tikārammaṇaƱca sukhaṁ. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is happiness that relies on freedom from rapture.ā€ Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ nippÄ«tikārammaṇaṁ sukhanā€ti.

SātārammaṇaƱca sukhaṁ upekkhārammaṇaƱca sukhaṁ. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is happiness that relies on equanimity.ā€ Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ upekkhārammaṇaṁ sukhanā€ti.

RÅ«pārammaṇaƱca sukhaṁ arÅ«pārammaṇaƱca sukhaṁ. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is happiness that relies on the formless.ā€ Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ arÅ«pārammaṇaṁ sukhanā€ti.
