“There are, mendicants, these two kinds of happiness. “Dvemāni, bhikkhave, sukhāni. What two? Katamāni dve? The happiness of laypeople, and the happiness of renunciates. Gihisukhañca pabbajitasukhañca. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is the happiness of renunciates.” Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ pabbajitasukhan”ti.

“There are, mendicants, these two kinds of happiness. “Dvemāni, bhikkhave, sukhāni. What two? Katamāni dve? Sensual happiness and the happiness of renunciation. Kāmasukhañca nekkhammasukhañca. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is the happiness of renunciation.” Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ nekkhammasukhan”ti.

“There are, mendicants, these two kinds of happiness. “Dvemāni, bhikkhave, sukhāni. What two? Katamāni dve? The happiness of attachments, and the happiness of no attachments. Upadhisukhañca nirupadhisukhañca. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is the happiness of no attachments.” Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ nirupadhisukhan”ti.

“There are, mendicants, these two kinds of happiness. “Dvemāni, bhikkhave, sukhāni. What two? Katamāni dve? Defiled happiness and undefiled happiness. Sāsavasukhañca anāsavasukhañca. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is the happiness of no defilements.” Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ anāsavasukhan”ti.

“There are, mendicants, these two kinds of happiness. “Dvemāni, bhikkhave, sukhāni. What two? Katamāni dve? Happiness of the flesh and happiness not of the flesh. Sāmisañca sukhaṁ nirāmisañca sukhaṁ. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is happiness not of the flesh.” Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ nirāmisaṁ sukhan”ti.

“There are, mendicants, these two kinds of happiness. “Dvemāni, bhikkhave, sukhāni. What two? Katamāni dve? Noble happiness and ignoble happiness. Ariyasukhañca anariyasukhañca. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is noble happiness.” Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ ariyasukhan”ti.

“There are, mendicants, these two kinds of happiness. “Dvemāni, bhikkhave, sukhāni. What two? Katamāni dve? Physical happiness and mental happiness. Kāyikañca sukhaṁ cetasikañca sukhaṁ. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is mental happiness.” Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ cetasikaṁ sukhan”ti.

“There are, mendicants, these two kinds of happiness. “Dvemāni, bhikkhave, sukhāni. What two? Katamāni dve? Happiness with rapture and happiness free of rapture. Sappītikañca sukhaṁ nippītikañca sukhaṁ. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is happiness free of rapture.” Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ nippītikaṁ sukhan”ti.

“There are, mendicants, these two kinds of happiness. “Dvemāni, bhikkhave, sukhāni. What two? Katamāni dve? Happiness with pleasure and happiness with equanimity. Sātasukhañca upekkhāsukhañca. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is happiness with equanimity.” Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ upekkhāsukhan”ti.

“There are, mendicants, these two kinds of happiness. “Dvemāni, bhikkhave, sukhāni. What two? Katamāni dve? The happiness of immersion and the happiness without immersion. Samādhisukhañca asamādhisukhañca. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is the happiness of immersion.” Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ samādhisukhan”ti.

“There are, mendicants, these two kinds of happiness. “Dvemāni, bhikkhave, sukhāni. What two? Katamāni dve? Happiness that relies on rapture and happiness that relies on freedom from rapture. Sappītikārammaṇañca sukhaṁ nippītikārammaṇañca sukhaṁ. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is happiness that relies on freedom from rapture.” Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ nippītikārammaṇaṁ sukhan”ti.

“There are, mendicants, these two kinds of happiness. “Dvemāni, bhikkhave, sukhāni. What two? Katamāni dve? Happiness that relies on pleasure and happiness that relies on equanimity. Sātārammaṇañca sukhaṁ upekkhārammaṇañca sukhaṁ. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is happiness that relies on equanimity.” Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ upekkhārammaṇaṁ sukhan”ti.

Rūpārammaṇañca sukhaṁ arūpārammaṇañca sukhaṁ. These are the two kinds of happiness. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, dve sukhāni. The better of these two kinds of happiness is happiness that relies on the formless.” Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, imesaṁ dvinnaṁ sukhānaṁ yadidaṁ arūpārammaṇaṁ sukhan”ti.
