Ethics (2nd) Dutiyasīlasutta

This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard. Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:

ā€œMendicants, an individual with two qualities is raised up to heaven. ā€œDvÄ«hi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato puggalo yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ sagge. What two? Katamehi dvÄ«hi? Excellent conduct and excellent view. Bhaddakena ca sÄ«lena, bhaddikāya ca diį¹į¹hiyā. A individual with these two qualities is raised up to heaven.ā€ Imehi kho, bhikkhave, dvÄ«hi dhammehi samannāgato puggalo yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ saggeā€ti.

The Buddha spoke this matter. Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca. On this it is said: Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:

ā€œIf a person possesses ā€œBhaddakena ca sÄ«lena, these two qualities—bhaddikāya ca diį¹į¹hiyā; excellent conduct Etehi dvÄ«hi dhammehi, and excellent views—yo samannāgato naro; when their body breaks up, that wise person Kāyassa bhedā sappaƱƱo, is reborn in heaven.ā€ saggaṁ so upapajjatÄ«ā€ti.

This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard. Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.

Chaṭṭhaṁ.
