The Eye Cakkhusutta

This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard. Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:

ā€œMendicants, there are these three eyes. ā€œTīṇimāni, bhikkhave, cakkhÅ«ni. What three? Katamāni tīṇi? The eye of the flesh, the eye of clairvoyance, and the eye of wisdom. Maṁsacakkhu, dibbacakkhu, paƱƱācakkhu—These are the three eyes.ā€ imāni kho, bhikkhave, tīṇi cakkhÅ«nÄ«ā€ti.

The Buddha spoke this matter. Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca. On this it is said: Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:

ā€œThe eye of flesh, the clairvoyant eye, ā€œMaṁsacakkhu dibbacakkhu, the supreme eye of wisdom: paƱƱācakkhu anuttaraṁ; these three eyes Etāni tīṇi cakkhÅ«ni, were taught by the supreme person. akkhāsi purisuttamo.

The arising of the eye of flesh Maṁsacakkhussa uppādo, is the path to the clairvoyant eye. maggo dibbassa cakkhuno; When knowledge arises—Yato ñāṇaṁ udapādi, the supreme eye of wisdom—paƱƱācakkhu anuttaraṁ; one who gains that eye Yassa cakkhussa paį¹ilābhā, is released from all suffering.ā€ sabbadukkhā pamuccatÄ«ā€ti.

This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard. Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.

Dutiyaṁ.
