Faculties Indriyasutta
This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard. VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatÄ vuttamarahatÄti me sutaį¹:
āMendicants, there are these three faculties. āTÄ«į¹imÄni, bhikkhave, indriyÄni. What three? KatamÄni tÄ«į¹i? The faculty of understanding that oneās enlightenment is imminent. The faculty of enlightenment. The faculty of one who is enlightened. AnaƱƱÄtaƱƱassÄmÄ«tindriyaį¹, aƱƱindriyaį¹, aƱƱÄtÄvindriyaį¹āThese are the three faculties.ā imÄni kho, bhikkhave, tÄ«į¹i indriyÄnÄ«āti.
The Buddha spoke this matter. Etamatthaį¹ bhagavÄ avoca. On this it is said: Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati:
āAs a trainee trains, āSekhassa sikkhamÄnassa, following the straight road, ujumaggÄnusÄrino; first they know about ending; Khayasmiį¹ paį¹hamaṠñÄį¹aį¹, enlightenment follows in the same lifetime. tato aĆ±Ć±Ä anantarÄ.
Then the knowledge comes Tato aƱƱÄvimuttassa, to such a one, freed through enlightenment, ƱÄį¹aį¹ ve hoti tÄdino; with the end of the fetters of continued existence: AkuppÄ me vimuttÄ«ti, āMy freedom is unshakable.ā bhavasaį¹yojanakkhayÄ.
Accomplished in the faculties, Sa ve indriyasampanno, peaceful, in love with the state of peace, santo santipade rato; they bear their final body, DhÄreti antimaį¹ dehaį¹, having vanquished MÄra with his legions.ā jetvÄ mÄraį¹ savÄhinināti.
This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard. Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatÄ, iti me sutanti.
Tatiyaį¹.
