Lamps Pajjotasutta
āHow many lamps are there āKati lokasmiį¹ pajjotÄ, that light up the world? Tehi loko pakÄsati; Weāve come to ask you, worthy sir: Bhagavantaį¹ puį¹į¹humÄgamma, how are we to understand this?ā Kathaį¹ jÄnemu taį¹ mayanāti.
āThere are four lamps in the world, āCattÄro loke pajjotÄ, a fifth is not found. paƱcamettha na vijjati; The sun blazes by day, DivÄ tapati Ädicco, the moon radiates at night, rattimÄbhÄti candimÄ.
while a fire illuminates both Atha aggi divÄrattiį¹, by day and by night. tattha tattha pakÄsati; But a Buddha is the best of blazes: Sambuddho tapataį¹ seį¹į¹ho, this is the supreme radiance.ā esÄ ÄbhÄ anuttarÄāti.
