āMendicants, there are five higher fetters. āPaƱcimÄni, bhikkhave, uddhambhÄgiyÄni saį¹yojanÄni. What five? KatamÄni paƱca? Desire for rebirth in the realm of luminous form, desire for rebirth in the formless realm, conceit, restlessness, and ignorance. RÅ«parÄgo, arÅ«parÄgo, mÄno, uddhaccaį¹, avijjÄāThese are the five higher fetters. imÄni kho, bhikkhave, paƱcuddhambhÄgiyÄni saį¹yojanÄni.
The five faculties should be developed for the direct knowledge, complete understanding, finishing, and giving up of these five higher fetters. Imesaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, paƱcannaį¹ uddhambhÄgiyÄnaį¹ saį¹yojanÄnaį¹ abhiƱƱÄya pariƱƱÄya parikkhayÄya pahÄnÄya paƱcindriyÄni bhÄvetabbÄni. What five? KatamÄni paƱca? Itās when a mendicant develops the faculties of faith, energy, mindfulness, immersion, and wisdom, which culminate in the removal of greed, hate, and delusion.
